-For All My Friends-
~~ "Friendship" ~~
Friendship is in loving rather than in being lov'd
which is its mutual benediction and recompense;
and tho' this be, and tho' love is from lovers learn'd,
it springeth none the less from the old essence of self.
No friendless man('twas well said) can be truly himself;
what a man looketh for in his friend and findeth,
and loving self best, loveth better than himself,
is his own better self, his live lovable idea,
flowering by expansion in the loves of his life.

A Friend
There is no friend like an old friend
Who has shared our morning days,
No greeting like their welcome,
No homage like their praise.
Fame is the scentless sunflower,
With gaudy crown of gold;
But friendship is the breathing rose,
With sweets in every fold.

~~ The Friend Who Stands By ~~
When troubles come your soul to try
You love the friend who just stands by. Perhaps there's nothing he or she can do The thing is strictly up to you.
For there are troubles all your own And paths the soul must tread alone Times when love can't smooth the road nor friendship lift the heavy load.
But just to feel you have a friend Who will stand by until the end. Whose sympathy through all endures Whose warm handclasp is always yours.
It helps somehow to pull you through Although there's nothing he or she can do. And so with fervent heart we cry... God Bless the friend who just stands by.

A friend is someone who
knows the song in your
heart and can sing it back
to you when you have
forgotten the words.

A Friend From Above
I prayed for you before we met,
not knowing who you'd be.
I asked the Lord to send a friend.
One chosen just for me.
I asked that they'd be Godly,
with wisdom of His ways.
A friend to help and guide me
in the troubles of these days.
So often in life, we need someone
to listen while we talk.
Someone who will not condemn or judge,
but encourage us as we walk.
The narrow road we choose to follow
may sometimes make us stumble,
but to have a friend to catch our fall,
teaches us to be humble.
When I asked the Lord to send a friend,
though many came and went,
He gave much more than I ever asked,
for you are the friend He sent.

What is a Friend
What is a friend? I'll tell you.
It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself.
Your soul can go naked with him.
He seems to ask you to put on nothing,
only to be what you really are,
When you are with him,
you do not have to be on your guard.
You can say what you think,
so long as it is genuinely you.
He understands those contradictions in your nature
that cause others to misjudge you.
With him you breath freely-you can avow
your little vanities and
envies and absurdities and in opening them up
to him they are dissolved on the white ocean of his loyalty.
He understands.--You can weep with him,
laugh with him,
pray with him--
through and beneath it all he sees,
knows and loves you.
A friend--I repeat--
is one with whom you dare to be yourself.
A Faithful and True Friend is a living treasure.

Friendship
I've seen the light
And it's in you
In everything you are
And in everything you do
It's a perfect light that shines
For all to see
It radiates from you
And has pierced the heart of me
The light is from a friend
It's a light that keeps me warm
It let's me know how loved I am
And keeps me safe from harm
To you my friend I am thankful
In each and every way
For you lift my spirits up
With every passing day
To know that you are there for me
It makes me feel alive
Because it is your friendship's light
Upon which my love thrives
So thank you isn't good enough
They are the only words I know
It is your light of friendship
That give's my world it's glow
Thanks for sharing your light with me
For it's the simple things in life
That are truly unforgettable.

The Best Treasure
There are veins in the hills where jewels hide,
And gold lies buried deep;
There are harbor-towns where the great ships ride,
And fame and fortune sleep;
But land and sea though we tireless rove,
And follow each trail to the end,
Whatever the wealth of our treasure-trove,
The best we shall find is a friend.
